How Many Creatine Tablets Per Day
For most creatine tablets sold in the UK the answer is three to six, depending on how much creatine each tablet contains. The authorised intake is 3g a day. Our own Creatine Monohydrate Power Boost tablets are 1000mg each, so three of those reach it exactly.
Work from the dose, not the tablet
Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high-intensity exercise. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3g of creatine. That figure is the one to aim at, and it is the same whether you swallow it or stir it into water.
Most research on creatine monohydrate has used 3g to 5g a day for maintenance. Our guide on how much creatine per day goes into where those numbers come from. For counting tablets, 3g is the number that matters, because it is the intake the authorised claim is tied to.
Tablet sizes are not standardised
Three sizes are common on the UK market, and the count changes completely between them:
- 1000mg tablets — three tablets for 3g. This is what we sell.
- 750mg tablets — four tablets for 3g.
- 500mg tablets — six tablets for 3g.
Check the creatine monohydrate content per tablet, not the total tablet weight. A tablet weighing 1000mg in total may contain less than that in actual creatine once binders and bulking agents are accounted for. A label that states the tablet weight but not the creatine content is telling you the less useful of the two numbers.
The arithmetic
- Target in mg, divided by creatine per tablet in mg, equals tablets per day.
- 3000 divided by 1000 = 3 tablets.
- 3000 divided by 500 = 6 tablets.
Take them with water. No loading phase is required — see whether you need a creatine loading phase for why that advice has changed. Consistency from day to day matters more than timing, and taking creatine with food or on an empty stomach covers that separately.
Tablets or powder
We sell both, so we have no particular reason to push you at one.
Tablets win on convenience. Nothing to measure, nothing to mix, no scoop to lose, and they travel without the risk of a split bag in a suitcase. If the reason you stopped taking creatine before was that mixing it was a faff, that is a real problem and tablets solve it.
Powder wins on cost per gram, and by a wide margin across the market, ours included. Our micronised creatine monohydrate powder is a 300g tub at 60 x 5g servings. Powder also lets you adjust the amount, which tablets do not.
If cost per gram is your priority, powder. If the thing that keeps you consistent is not having to think about it, tablets. Consistency beats optimisation here: 3g of creatine you actually take every day is worth more than 5g you take twice a week.
We have compared the two formats in more detail in creatine powder or tablets.
If you are buying tablets from someone else
Look for a stated creatine monohydrate content per tablet rather than just a tablet weight, a short ingredient list, and batch testing. Be wary of products making claims beyond the authorised one — anything promising recovery, endurance, body composition or cognitive benefits is going further than UK food law permits for creatine.
Summary
- Three 1000mg tablets, four 750mg tablets, or six 500mg tablets reach the 3g authorised intake.
- Check creatine content per tablet, not tablet weight.
- We sell creatine as both 1000mg tablets and 300g micronised powder.
- Powder is cheaper per gram; tablets are easier to keep up with.
- No loading phase is needed in either format.
